With the recent Fukushima nuclear catastrophy public opinion on nuclear energy has changed. Previous nuclear accidents, such as Chernobyl, were blamed on low technology reactors and the fact that the soviets main preoccupation was not safety. Japan though, a modern country worldly respected for its political stability and high-tech industrial facilities, is renowned for its focus on safety. So how did such an accident happen?
